About Tamweelcom

The Jordan Micro Credit Company (Tamweelcom) was established in 1999 as a non-profit company pioneering in the field of micro enterprise support and development. Tamweelcom began working as a limited liability company fully owned by Noor Al-Hussein Foundation, which operates independently under the umbrella of the King Hussein Foundation.

Our Objectives

By reaching out to its clients, Tamweelcom aims to educate them as much as possible so they are able to distinguish between support as a form of charity and loans that are designed to help low-income people enter the business market and maintain their sustainability and steadfastness.  Tamweelcom’s objectives may be summarized as follows:

  • Maintain the lead in the local market and increase the number of clients to 160,000 throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Ensure the quality of provided services through the use of technological and informational methods in order to raise the level of efficiency and productivity in accordance with best practices.
  • Expand the scope of Tamweelcom’s services to at least two countries in the Middle East and North Africa while ensuring comprehensive coverage of the local market.
  • Manage the social performance effectively, in order to ensure the improvement of the social and economic impact in alleviating poverty and creating work opportunities.

Our Achievements

  • Tamweelcom conducted the first social performance rating of its kind in Jordan and received a (3+) rating with an observation that the Company is advancing towards better results in the area of social performance management.
  • Tamweelcom received an (A) Rating in 2009, an (A-) rating in 2007, and (B+) rating in 2005 in the overall conducted by Planet rating.
  • Tamweelcom received the Middle East regional Social Entrepreneurship Award in 2009 from the Schwab Foundation for its role in maximizing benefits for the society and preserving the environment.

  • Tamweelcom received a Certificate of Excellence in 2009 for its second place ranking out of the 41 private companies, which competed in the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence for the private sector.

  • Tamweelcom received the Performance Award in Microfinance for 2009 from Sanabel network in recognition for its distinguished performance in the microfinance industry worldwide.

  • Tamweelcom took the top position at the national and Arab level among major microfinance institutions in the Arab world in 2008 according to a classification issued by the Microfinance Information Exchange Market (The Mix).
  • Tamweelcom was selected as the Microfinance institution of the Month worldwide in March 2008, and the company’s profile was featured on the MIX Market homepage.

  • Tamweelcom was classified as one of ten best microfinance institutions worldwide in 2007 and 2008 according to the classification issued by the Microfinance Information Exchange Market (The Mix).

  • HM Queen Rania Al-Abdullah honored the winners of the Citi Group Award for microcredit in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Her Majesty recognized six pioneers from among Tamweelcom’s clients in 2006, two in 2007, and four in 2008.

  • Tamweelcom received the Pro-Poor Innovation Challenge Award for 2007 presented by CGAP.

  • Tamweelcom won this award following competition with 200 other international companies, thus becoming the first company in the Arab world to win this award in recognition for its best practices.
  • Tamweelcom received CGAP’s Financial Transparency Award for 2006 after competing with hundreds of international companies, thus becoming the first company to win such an award on the regional level.

  • Tamweelcom officially joined the Micro Finance Network (MFN) in 2006 and became the first company in the Middle East to become a member of this network.

MFN is an international association of leading microfinance institutions.

Through the MFN, 38 members from 31 countries share ideas, experiences, and innovative solutions to the challenges they face in search of continuous growth and progress.

MFN members seek to be models of what is possible in the industry.

  • Tamweelcom received CGAP’s Financial Transparency Merit Prize in 2005 for its commitment to the highest standards of micro credit companies.

  • Tamweelcom became an active member in the MIX Market transparency Website in 2002. In this network, members exchange analytical information specific to their organizations and make the information available to donor and beneficiary agencies around the world.
  • Tamweelcom joined Sanabel regional network in 2002 for the benefit of exchanging knowledge, information and micro credit capacity building, as the network aims to reach the largest number possible of entrepreneurs in Arab countries.
